Jabalpur is an ancient city of Madhya Pradesh. Jabalpur is situated at the center of India in the Mahakoshal region, beside holy river Narmada. The city received its name from Rishi Jaballi.

Jabalpur is one of the most historical and important city among all the cities of India. Due to the native place of Jabali Rishi it is known as Jabalipuram.

Jabalpur is surrounded by a spectacular variety of nature, at south-west of Jabalpur flows holy river NARMADA which has become a unique harmony. Marble rocks of Bhedaghat are surprising. It has a waterfall called “Dhuandhar” which is the symbol of dignity.

“Chausath Yogni” an ancient temple situated in the hills of Bhedaghat is a unique example of craftsmanship.

Jabalpur has a world famous temple known as “Chausath Yogni “which has 64 Goddess in numbers, the amazing sculptures of Yoginian can be viewed here. Among the oldest rocks in the world counts Lamhetaghat rocks which is near to the Bhedaghat. Lamhetaghat is so called because it is approximately 50 million years old and in the world’s geological language it is specified as “Lamhetite”. On the west of the Bhedaghat road Tewar is located .There is an ancient story behind it, Tewar is located at Jabalpur which earlier belonged to Kalchuri’s and was known as Tripuri which was a symbol of proud to the state of “Shishupal Chedi”. Tripurasur, the monster of Tripuri was killed by Lord Shiva, since then Lord Shiva’s name got “Tripurari”. Gaangey son Kalchuri Karndev was a powerful ruler who is called as an “Indian Napoleon”. His empire was spread over an larger area of India. After coronation as an emperor Kalchuri‘s second era began.Jabalpur is not only famous for his political, religious & social aspect but also for the legendary Queen Rani Durgawati who belonged to Gaur dynasty and played a significant role in the foundation of Jabalpur. While fighting with the Mughals her son “Virnarayan” suffered martyrdom and her self-sacrifice to protect her motherland is a rare event in the history of India. Former to the Durgawati, in memory of Madanshah at picturesque hills, present Fort Madan Mahal.

Rani Durgavati was very close to her army. The best example can be seen at Ranital, Cherital, Adhartal which has been named after Rani’s general Adhaar Singh, Sangram Swasur Singh that still reminds us of Gaur dynasty.Gaur Empire was divided into four parts. Capital of north was Singorgarh, North-East was Mandla, West and Central were Chauragadh and Garha respectively. Garha was the center of entire Empire. Jabalpur’s contribution in the battle of freedom was outstanding. Indian flag movement was initiated at Jabalpur in 1939.It was Jabalpurians activeness that the 52th All Indian Congress”Tripuri Congress Session” was held at Jabalpur .During the freedom movement Mr. Subhash Chandra Bose was imprisoned at ”Central Jail” Jabalpur. The composer of poetry “Khub Ladi Mardani Woh Toh Jhansi Wali Rani Thi”was Subhadra kumari Chauhan who gave new wings to Hindi literature. The great writer Harishankar Parssai “architects of the satirical mode “is one of the precious gems of Jabalpur.
